Spring Coat Ensemble

Hello there! How's the weather up there? It's been very warm here, kinda hot in the daytime. Which means I will no longer have a chance to wear this coat and ended up waiting for next autumn. Oh well, it's okay, I made the flare skirt dress too. But I'm not happy with it. Do you see the slight wrinkles at the princess seams? This is a chemical stretch fabric and it stretches quite a lot. I think one side must have stretched when stitching because they weren't there when I fitted on. Besides all that, I shouldn't have picked this fabric for this seamed wear.
My mom's who has decades of career in this field and often says that learning never ends at any age. Yes, that is so true.

  2. The weather is coldcoldcold (in fact I'm finding it hard to get out of bed) 5 degrees in Tulla, and a little below 15 out here in the 'burbs.. I'm in bed under the doona with my bed jacket on top XD. But enough about the weather, that coat/ dress is gorgeous and you are beautiful! I can't tell whether there are any crinkles in the fabric (I'm reading this on my laptop) but if it worries you put an asymmetrical lace overlay over that part (in the same/ contrasting colour) or even some fabric flowers maybe.. The artwork behind you is interesting. It reminds me of Indian marigold garlands...

    1. Wow, that's cold! But I like to stay and be lazy in bed on such a cold day. I prefer winters more than summers cos summers here are just terrible...

In fact, there are crinkles below bust. I care about it but now I'm fed up with working with this fabric. Your ideas would be good to cover them up or maybe I will just wear a cardigan, hehe :P

    2. And that painting belongs to my mom. She has told me once about the artist but I can't remember...

    4. Okay, I'll give a shot. It's not the best weather to wear the dress anyway.

  3. What a beautiful ensemble, I'm impressed that you can make two plain white garments look so great! It's hard to see the wrinkles on the dress so you shouldn't hesitate wearing it, it's such a pretty garment :)

    1. Thank you, Cecili! I usually like prints or textural patterns. But I think that sometimes it's good to do different things you don't usually do or like. So I did and thought plain colors are never boring:)

  4. A classic, stylish outfit, beautifully made as usual. Really, you are being too fussy about the dress - it's fabulous.

Thank you, Michelle for your comment. Stay warm x

  7. Love the coat, and the dress too! Did you use a commercial pattern for the two? I know what you mean about wrinkles. Maybe they will drop out with a wear or two.

    1. Thank you! I usually draft patterns by myself and ditto with these two. I care about the wrinkles but yes, I will put a cardigan or something on and try not to see that :P

    2. Great patterns, I had hoped they were commercial ones, then i could grab them without taking the time to draft... ah well, time to stop being lazy! Good job! I have used some of your fabric, by the way!

    3. Cooool! I'm so excited to hear that! Can't wait to see it!!

If possible, I want to skip drafting too cos it not so fun (for me). But I know you can draft! Let me know if you would like to use the measurements or anything else as a reference:)

  8. 'Can you see the wrinkles' she says :) No I can't see the wrinkles because your stuff always looks so amazing that the only thing I can do is stare with my jaw on the floor ;)

Seriously, this is (once again) amazing work and you look absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for sharing. It's good for amateurs like me to dream about one day being able to do this :)

    1. Thank you, Joost! But don't flatter me so much cos I'm not satisfied with this dress. I'm glad you seem to start sewing again. If you keep trying, you will make anything you want one day:)

  9. Your ensemble is perfectly beautiful!!! I do not notice the wrinkles at all. I love the drape of the dress. Did you really design and draft the pattern?

    1. Thank you! And yes, I did design and draft them. Drafting is a boring part of sewing though :P

  10. Beautiful work on the coat and dress! Like the others, I don't notice the wrinkles on the dress. However, I do understand being upset at wrinkles too- I have a similar dress with that problem. What is chemical stretch fabric? Is it polyester and/or spandex?

    1. Thank you! The fabric is made of polyester, polyurethane, and some more other stuff that I don't remember. Spandex might be in it as you say. Chemical fiber fabric might be Japanese way to say:p

    1. Thank you, Angel! I just saw your blog. I can't understand your language (maybe French!?) but your creations are beautiful and your pink knit (pull burda CF hiver 2006) is so lovely!

  12. Heehee-Loved your response. :P can also be the American way to say polyester/chemical fiber fabric.

    1. Atsuko

  17. I love the set. I too was hoping they were commercial patterns as the coat is exactly what I've been looking for (for years). i have a light cream/peach wool Boculè that I have been saving for just this style. It's been in my head, but i've never found a pattern for it. Seeing your's has inspired me to get busy and pattern draft it out before fall arrives.

    1. I'm sometimes asked if my garment patterns are commercial ones. So I've decided to show how to draft patterns. Due to lack of time, drafting page is so slow and I've beeeeen working on another dress patten. But I will add this coat on the list. Cos this one is actually quite easy and simple!
Thank you for stopping by. Have a nice day!
